Tornado…
A tornado touched down only a mile or two from our house last night and I just wanted to let everyone know that we are ok! We have a lot of limbs down in the yard and leaves are everywhere but the house and cars are fine. Many were not as fortunate. It really came on suddenly and was very scary. We lost power for a while which may be the first time that has happened in the 3 years we’ve lived there. I’m glad we have a basement.
I was surprised that my post from yesterday drew comments. I guess education is a hot button with my family. No surprises there! The home schooling thing has been on my mind for a while. I guess I will cross the bridge when I come to it but much of it depends on how many children we have. If it’s just Claire, we will likely try to send her to Walker or a school close to Kyle’s work (if I am no longer working in Marietta). It really depends on how our school system turns it around in the next few years. I know that parental involvement is huge and up here (in cherokee) you see more of it than you do elsewhere but it would still be very difficult for both of us to have corporate jobs and be involved with our children’s school. We have a family friend who stays home with her children who are in public elementary and middle school but she enhances her children’s education by being a constant presence in the classroom and with afterschool activities. It’s a lot to think about but I know that having a corporate job will likely mean less involvement than I would like in my children’s lives. Beyond just the hours commitment to a job, the commute is never less than 35 minutes each way. Kyle is commuting 60-70 miles a day and it takes so much out of him. If we were both downtown, I can’t imagine how exhausted we would be.
Off topic: I have started twittering. It seems I have many things to say in 140 characters or less. If you are on twitter, hit me up. If not, I added my tweets on the homepage so you all can keep up.
