Hospital Visit
Just a short update. I had my regular appt with Dr. Harvin on Monday and all went well. Monday night, I was having some very painful cramping so I called and spoke with Julie, the midwife, and it turned out that after a few hours it went away. It still wasn’t fun but it did go away after a warm bath and of all things, gas-x. Her theory was that perhaps the baby had pushed a gas bubble somewhere it wasn’t supposed to go or was just sitting on something it shouldn’t be.
Yesterday at lunch, I managed to take quite a tumble coming out of the restaraunt. I wish I could say I had actually tripped on something but that was not the case. I was wearing flat shoes and walking on a flat surface and just rolled my ankle and fell straight forward, rolled and ended up on my back in the middle of the parking lot. Strawberry burns on my hands, scraped knee, and bruised hip aside, I thought I was ok. I noticed very minimal movement on Claire’s part over the course of the afternoon so I decided to give the doctor’s office a call. They ended up sending me to triage in labor & delivery at the hospital. I arrived there around 5, where they confirmed her heart rate then set me in a waiting room for 45 minutes while they waited on available room in triage. One good thing that came out of last night is that my registration paperwork for when I actually go into labor is now completed so I won’t have to worry about signing a bunch of paperwork when I’m in labor!
Around 5:45 they got me into a room and hooked me up to a monitor to watch both Claire’s activity as well as my uterine activity. After about an hour and a half it was determined that Claire was just fine. Her heartrate fluctuated between 115 and 155 and she was moving semi-regularly. I on the other hand was not. Even though I could not feel them, the nurse and midwife noticed that I was having steady contractions. They gave me fluids as well as a series of shots of Brethene, a medication to stop preterm contractions, and after another hour or so, everything had stopped. I was released at a little bit after 9PM and was able to go home.
I’m fine today. A little sore, but that was to be expected.
Kyle and I have our visit with the Daycare center this afternoon. Does anybody have any questions that you think we should ask them?
